Shibadong is a mountainous village of the Miao ethnic group in Shuanglong Town, Huayuan County of Hunan Province. It was an impoverished area with a poverty headcount ratio of 57 percent in the past because of inconvenient transportation.
During the past decade, the implementation of targeted poverty alleviation and rural revitalization strategies in Shibadong has fostered many special industries, including rural tourism, kiwi fruit planting, cattle breeding and the exploration of spring water, and blazed a path of high-quality development that is suited to local resources and strengths and represented by red tourism.
The per capita disposable income of residents grew from 1,668 yuan ($232) in 2013 to 20,167 yuan in 2021. Meanwhile, the local collective economy surged from nearly zero to 2.68 million yuan during the same period.
The tremendous development of Shibadong has become a new brand for Hunan in writing a new chapter for its robust growth.
